3X3A: Waiting for the skies to open… 🌤️

Not every day on Roume Island is filled with frenetic pileups. Today, propagation decided to put me to the test: silent bands, signals fading into QSB, and background noise that seems to give no respite.
Operating from Guinea in these conditions requires infinite patience. I spend hours with headphones trying to extract signals that are just above the noise level. It’s tiring, at times frustrating, but that’s precisely the challenge of the true DXer.
What do I do when the log isn’t running?
I take advantage of this opportunity to optimize everything possible:

  • Technical check-up: I double-check the connectors and improve the ground planes of the verticals. Every decibel gained here will be worth its weight in gold when propagation returns.
  • Constant listening: I don’t give up, ready to pounce as soon as a passage opens up to Europe or the Americas.
  • Island Life: In these moments of radio silence, Roume reminds us how isolated and wild it is. A moment of respite, gazing at the ocean and recharging the batteries (mine and the generators’!).

Don’t be discouraged if you don’t hear me: I’m here, tuned in, ready to respond to the slightest signal. The hunt continues!
Keep your ears open!
